We were seated in the downstairs bar and the waiter was more interested in turning the table than serving us. It was dark, very loud, and will not warrant returning despite having been several times before.
Must have been a party upstairs and music was loud and thumping like we were at a club. We had a wonderful time! The pasta and service are always fantastic. That allowed us more time to interact with the service staff, who were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Really wonderful people, which accounts for a big part of any dining experience. Me and my husband decided to go for our 8 year anniversary. Everything was simply amazing.
We will definitely be back. Excellent experience. Had reservations and got seated right away. The service was excellent. Every bite of food was wonderful! Loved sitting outside too! Spotty service. Nice pers,but likely too many tables. A true Chicago landmark! It is a must for any occasion! Always a great time! My husband and I went for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The host greeted us, she wished us a happy anniversary and informed us to wait 15 minutes to find a good table for us.
We had no problem waiting but when she took us to our table we were shocked that she sat us outside where it felt too casual. At the time of reservation, I put 9 year anniversary in hopes to be seated in an intimate section. Anyway, it took exactly 13 minutes for our server to come. That same waiter walked to our table finally and asked what we wanted to drink.
Again no introduction, no specials and not even an apology for the 13 minute wait. My husband and I ordered two glasses of wine but they came in a regular drinking glass because apparently all of the wine glasses came out of the dishwasher and the heat from the glass changes the taste of the wine. I was appalled. The busboys definitely saved the night.
The pastas were OK, definitely not worth the price. At the end of the day, our time at Carmines was horrible. It was our first and definitely our last. Unique restaurant, good food. Service was ok - not what I would expect from a historic Chicago staple of a restaurant.
The house music was way too loud. Felt like we were dining in a club atmosphere. It was hard to talk across the table. Service was great but the food taste was just ok.
We were a party of 5 and none of us were wowed by any of the dishes we ordered. I don't think we will be returning. Great as always! Food was delicious, wine was yummy, service was friendly and timely. We come here every time we are in Chicago and it never disappoints. Fantastic food, go here you will not be disappointed!
The lasagna was fantastic, the chicken Milanese was terrific. Saw rats on outside patio so manager comped two food items and moved us inside. Fun atmosphere great food and excellent service! Eggplant stack was a great appetizer as well as the caprese salad. The lasagna and the salmon were great choices. The chocolate cake was indeed large and delicious.
A wonderful spot in our hood! Food is good and plentiful. Dining outside in Chicago is one of my favorite things to do. Great way to celebrate my birthday! The service here cannot be beat.
The staff are so nice, attentive, and professional. The food is amazing as well. Perfect place to carb up before the Chicago Marathon!
Overall, great food, service, and atmosphere. Carmines was great! Juan and Fernando showed the best customer service. Thank you so much to the excellent staff! The food and cocktails were as per expectation, the server may have been a little too attentive. It did not subtract from the quality of his service. Will be back.
