After we leave Seattle Center, we will be heading out on the picturesque route of Day One, which is similar — but shorter!
We will cross over the Pedestrian Bridge, which is more picturesque than some of the bridge options we have used in the past. From there, we will walk south through Medina, which is a very cute, quaint little town where some Seattle heavy hitters Hi, Bill Gates! Ann loves this spot, especially for the little waterfall that makes it extra relaxing.
From lunch, we will exit through Bellevue and go into Redmond. We have a new pit stop 4 to look forward to in the afternoon and Ann thinks walkers will be especially excited for that change!
From there, we will return to our outdoor camp at Marymoor Park. We are back in the original campground spot this year, after making a move in Camp will still be at Marymoore Park, but in a different section this year. So, we will enter camp through downtown Redmond. There will still be lots of parks, and one of the parks is even hosting a local event so keep an eye out for fun Seattle festivities. Day Three will start off with a bus ride to the University of Washington to begin the day on their beautiful campus.
From there, the route is pretty much the same as in years past, but walkers will see a few different parks! So, we will have the chance to mingle and get to know each other! As you leave lunch, you will be walking back to the city through all of the Amazon buildings.
If walkers still have energy after their first few miles, Ann recommends playing in the park! You can enjoy the sounds of Jimmy Buffet as they support your every step! There will also be the Shore Cheerleaders in the morning and Woodinville Cheerleaders in the afternoon to help keep all our walkers motivated. There is plenty to see and enjoy throughout the day! In addition, Coach Stephanie Mayer says to keep an eye out for the famous Lil Smokies Guys, who will be out every day of the weekend to cheer on the walkers!
Spending the day driving the routes with 3-Day staff and discussing the reasoning and thought process was amazing. Every single concern was addressed and great changes are being made.
I love that they are looking at it through the eyes and perspective of someone who is walking the 60 miles.
Many hills were eliminated and roads have been changed to give us a change of scenery. We are planning on reversing the route heading out of camp so we can walk into Redmond Town Center and avoid heading straight up the huge hill first thing in the morning. I love the route out of lunch because we will continue to walk along the waterfront through downtown. To make our way back to Redmond we are working on a gradual, progressive uphill that incorporates the Cross Kirkland trail and hopefully the Google Campus.
