He was transferred to Columbus in and we moved to Reynoldsburg. All I remember is I picked up a trombone and the rest was history. My dad made me pledge to practice and I did. I was in the high school band by the time I was in 7th grade. We went on to win the national championship in Miami and were recorded on Impulse records.
Then Ladd and I joined the Rhodes Brothers and toured the country for two years. There I met Dave Smith and we formed a rock band.
I developed an electric trombone style. We formed into Strongbow and I enjoyed developing my writing skills and eventually recorded several quirky tunes.
We were lucky to tour the country and disbanded after much success. I am currently writing and hoping to perform again and sell some tunes on the market.
John Stelzer began piano lessons in 3rd grade. It reached 17 on the Michigan radio charts. The band recorded and released the album Strongbow largely composed by Bendler and toured the country.
Throughout that time, Stelzer kept his music endeavors active and--since retiring in —is now focusing on music. John was born and raised in Columbus Ohio and started his musical career on tenor sax. He started playing bass in early in a college group. In , he got in a short-lived group with Michael Shortland called Sweat Bighouse. The group traveled extensively throughout the Midwest and South and released a self-titled album in John stayed with Strongbow until Dave was the sound engineer for the group.
